Д watched "No Time to Die" the other day and realized this is probably the best farewell to Daniel Craig as James Bond they could have made. The film starts quietly. Bond has long retired, lives on Jamaica, fishes, drinks coffee in the mornings and tries not to think about the past. Everything is peaceful until his old CIA friend Felix Leiter knocks on the door and asks for help just once more.
Of course, one last time turns into a real mess. They need to rescue a scientist who was kidnapped. At first it seems like a routine job, but very quickly it becomes clear that the enemy is not simple. A new villain appears, calm, smart and terribly dangerous. He has in his hands a weapon based on nanotechnology that can kill millions in seconds. And this time Bond has to confront not just a maniac, but something that can change the world forever.
The picture looks gorgeous. Jamaica, Italy, Norway - every location is filmed so that you want to drop everything and fly there right now. The action is thought out to the smallest detail: chases on motorcycles through narrow streets, shooting in old houses, fights on the stairs. Everything is dynamic, but not chaotic, you can see every movement.
What touched me most was that the film is not only about explosions and gadgets. Here Bond is already older, he is tired, he has wounds that will never heal. For the first time he really thinks about what he has lost over the years of service. There are several scenes with Madeleine Swann where they simply talk, and you believe every word. It's hard to remember when Bond was shown so human.
The villains are also not cardboard. Safin, the main antagonist, does not yell or laugh maliciously. He speaks quietly, convincingly, and from this it becomes even scarier. Rami Malek played him just brilliantly - you look at him and understand that this person really believes that he is saving the world.
Separately worth mentioning the music. Hans Zimmer took the classic Bond theme and made it sound new, powerful and at the same time sad. And Billie Eilish's song at the beginning sets the mood for the whole film.
By the end the film squeezes out tears, and this is not pathos, this is honestly earned. When the credits rolled, I sat for another minute and just looked at the black screen. They managed to close the whole era beautifully and with dignity. Craig left, but left at the highest level.
If you love Bond, be sure to watch it on the big screen while you can. This is one of those films that you remember for a long time.
